The goal of this invited competition was the design of the courthouse for trade and social affairs within the urban Campus de la Justicia on the outskirts of Madrid. The development of this campus was governed by the rigid guidelines imposed on the development of each structure; the brief prescribed that each building be contained within a cylinder whose diameter and height was defined in the master plan. The design was developed around a confrontational dialectic between two distinct elements: the first, a sturdy structure firmly anchored at ground level, characterized by a static, vertical treatment; in contrast with the second, an elevated cylinder in which fluidity and movement are exemplified by their horizontal treatment. A suspended garden was installed at the heart of this configuration.
